Barrington voters leave appropriations committee intact

Richard Staples and Trisha Marlar voted back onto COA

Posted

Following the budget votes at Wednesday night's financial town meeting, taxpayers were asked to vote on the committee on appropriations.

Two seats on the committee — one filled by Trisha Marlar and the other by Richard Staples — were up for re-election. Ms. Marlar and Mr. Staples were both running for re-election.

Town moderator Allan Klepper asked members of the audience if anyone else intended on running for the committee, which is responsible for reviewing proposed budgets and formulating a recommendation to taxpayers.

Former COA member Chad Mollica approached the microphone and said he wanted to nominate Dr. Lisa Daft and Ann Strong for the committee. Dr. Daft and Ms. Strong both offered short statements to the crowd, and both said that if elected they would offer some much-needed balance to the committee.

Ms. Marlar and Mr. Staples also offered brief statements to the audience.

Taxpayers then cast their ballots, and a few minutes later Mr. Klepper announced that Ms. Marlar and Mr. Staples had received the most votes. Ms. Marlar and Mr. Staples will serve with COA members Scott Douglas, Josh Berlinsky and Dr. Cynthia Rosengard.

Final vote tally:

Richard Staples — 104

Trisha Marlar — 94

Dr. Lisa Daft — 46

Ann Strong — 28
