Barrington teacher wins contest and $500 gift card

Primrose Hill School teacher Cheryl August recently won the Celebrate Teachers contest, which was sponsored by the Providence Place Mall.

Ms. August, who garnered the most online support in the contest, received a $500 gift card. She has taught at Primrose Hill School for 17 years and previously at Nayatt for seven years.

"This was an exciting competition and I was extremely honored to be nominated by Mary Talbot, parent of my second-grader, Liam, and his brother, Connor," Ms. August wrote in a recent e-mail. "I am so grateful to all the parents and former students who voted for me! It has been a blessing to work with such wonderful and supportive families in Barrington for over 20 years! Thank you so much!"

After being nominated for the contest, Ms. August reached the finals, squaring off against Stephanie Pereira (Lincoln Elementary School) and Lynn Durand (Atlantis Charter School).

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
