Barrington swimmer earns trip to nationals

Barrington's Joshua Zimmt, a soon-to-be sophomore at the College of William and Mary, recently posted some impressive times at the Arena 2014 New England Senior Championships held at Brown University. Joshua won the 100 meter breaststroke event with a time of 1.04.67, which qualified him for a spot at the Winter Nationals. He also won the 200 meter breaststroke even with a time of 2.19.97. During the prelims in that event, Joshua recorded a time of 2.19.14, which qualified him for a spot in the upcoming Summer Nationals in Irvine, Calif. His time of 2.19.14 also set a New England record in that event, smashing a mark that had been set in July 2008. Joshua, who swims for the Attleboro Bluefish (also the home team for Olympian Elizabeth Beisel), broke three swimming records at William and Mary. He earned the Dudley Jensen Scholar Athlete Award and the Provost Award for Scholar Athletes. He finished his freshman year with a 3.96 grade point average.
