Barrington school to host October festival

Posted

Sowams School in Barrington will host its annual October Festival on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event, which serves as an important fund-raiser for the school's parent-teacher organization, will feature a number of fun games for kids of all ages. There will be hair beading, pony rides, a moon bounce, an obstacle course, nail and face painting, tattoos, mystery bags, cookie decorating, karoake and a home run derby contest.

The Sowams October Festival will also include a silent auction and raffles. Anyone who wants to view the silent auction items and class baskets can do so at www.sowamsoctoberfest.com.

The well-known and much-loved bake walk will return to the festival, also. In addition, there will be hot dogs and hamburgers, popcorn and cotton candy.

The event will be held rain or shine and people attending the event are reminded to park on the school side of Sowams Road.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
