Resident says man was asking for money for police fund

Posted

A Barrington resident called police after a suspicious man knocked on his front door and said he was collecting money for a police fund.

According to police, the resident told the man he was not interested in donating money to the police fund and then started taking a video of the suspect, who left the scene in a gold-colored Toyota Corolla.

The resident shared the video with police who then located the suspect's vehicle parked outside the CVS Pharmacy at the Barrington Shopping Center.

Police saw a man matching the description of the suspect getting inside the car, and later stopped the suspect vehicle and spoke with the man.

The suspect denied soliciting the resident for money, and he then became upset and began to video-record the encounter with the police officer.

Police did not charge the man.
