Barrington police: Poker game turns ugly, Maine man charged

A 911 call for screaming and yelling heard early Sunday morning, Oct. 27, eventually resulted in the arrest of a Maine man.

According to Barrington police, someone called 911 at 5:20 a.m. after hearing yelling and screaming in the area of Anchorage Way and Melrose Avenue. Officers responded and soon located a man walking along the roadway.

Police said the man had been playing poker with relatives at a nearby home — it was also apparent the card players had been drinking — when an argument ensued. Police said Gonzalo Eduardo Ruiz, 38, of Hartford, Maine, had struck a relative.

Police charged Mr. Ruiz with domestic-simple assault/battery and domestic-disorderly conduct. Mr. Ruiz later posted bail and was released.
