Looking to get rid of an old mattress? The town can help.

The Town of Barrington recently began participating in a mattress recycling program.

"Mattresses from residents will now be accepted at the DPW and will be recycled at no cost to the town," stated a recent press release from the town. "This will save nearly 70 mattress per year from being disposed of at the Central Landfill."

The town will accept mattresses anytime between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at DPW headquarters at 84 Upland Way.

There are some rules, however, for people who plan on getting rid of an old mattress. For starters, mattresses must be dry and should not be damaged, twisted or soiled.

"Mattresses must not have bed bugs or mold/mildew," stated the release.

Also, there is a limit of three mattress pieces per resident, per day.
