Barrington High School graduate and Troy University junior Michael Alvernaz set a school and meet record in the indoor track weight throw during a recent meet.

While competing for the Trojans at the Samford Invitational at the Birmingham (Ala.) CrossPlex, Alvernaz recorded a throw of 20.35 meters. The distance set a meet and school record and helped Alvernaz to a victory in the weight throw event.

The throw, which paced the Troy men's team to a fifth place finish at the invitational, also qualified the former BHS standout for the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.
