Erin Cowden receives award at Newport Jazz Festival

Posted

Erin Cowden, a 2018 Barrington High School graduate and drummer in the Senior All State Jazz Ensemble, was honored at the recent Newport Jazz Festival held at Fort Adams in Newport.

Erin received the George Wein Jazz Ambassador Scholarship by festival sponsor, Natixis Investment Managers, in the amount of $5,000.

Graduating members of the ensemble were given the opportunity to apply for the scholarship by sending a video of a performance, a recommendation from a teacher and a short essay with their application. Selected staff members at Natixis along with founding member of the festival, George Wein, chose Erin from the talented pool of applicants.

The presentation took place on the Fort Stage in conjunction with the Massachusetts All State recipient. Erin will attend Northeastern University this fall.
