The 2018-2019 Barrington Middle School wrestling team finished its season by competing in the Futures Tournament and the Varsity Tournament on consecutive weekends.  

​Eight Barrington Middle School wrestlers placed at the Future’s Tournament, including six that reached the medals round. Will Hopkins and Danny Lemos each finished in seventh place in their respective weight divisions at the tournament. Tim Szala placed sixth while Hunter Hughes and Tyler Herrarra both took home fifth place medals.  

Three Barrington wrestlers reached the championship rounds. First-year wrestler Jackson Cortese placed third in his weight division. Barrington Middle School's Michael Kilpatrick and Jack Treanor each reached the finals at the Futures Tournament. Both boys finished in second place. 

"The wrestlers showed grit and determination that had the coaches beaming with pride," stated a press release from the BMS team.

Varsity tournament

Barrington Middle School sent eight wrestlers to the varsity tournament. 

Despite great individual efforts, four of the Barrington wrestlers were eliminated from the tournament on the first day. Lucas Bianco reached the second day of the tournament and came home with a strong fifth place finish. Joey Grillo enjoyed a stellar tournament — each of his victories was by pin. Grillo reached the consolation round finals. 

Barrington co-captain Ryan Valentine decimated those who stood in his way en route to a third place finish. Meanwhile, fellow co-caption Devin Mederios had the final match of the evening, competing in the 126-pound final. Competing against his rival from Kickemuit Middle School, Brock Pacheco, Devin came up just short in points.  

"Devin took second place but his coaches, teammates and family embraced Devin as a true champion and warrior," stated the release. 

​The Barrington Middle School team place 10th out of 32 teams at the tournament. The middle school team will send 14 wresters to the high school next year.
