Barrington defeats Cumberland and Elmwood

The Barrington Juniors All-Star team advanced to the state championship game with wins over Cumberland American and Elmwood this past week.

On Monday night, Barrington defeated Elmwood 8-7 in a come-from-behind victory. Elmwood took a 6-0 lead after the first half inning but Barrington responded with five runs in the bottom of the third inning. Andy Fletcher had a two-run double in the inning and Andrew Lapointe, Joe Medeiros and Ryan Machado added RBIs.

Barrington took the lead in the fourth inning as Lapointe singled in Ned Shapiro and Sam Faulkner scored on a passed ball.

After Elmwood tied the game in the top of the sixth inning, Matt Davis drove in Bryan Ivatts with the eventual winning running with a single to left field in the bottom of the frame.

Barrington held on for the win in the seventh thanks for strong defensive plays from Medeiros, Davis and Ivatts.  Aidan Aggarwal and Sam Faulkner led the way on the mound for Barrington with Faulkner closing out the game. Dante Salvaggio contributed a hard single and a stolen base in the game, and Machado made a running catch in right field to end an early threat.

On Saturday afternoon, Barrington beat Cumberland 8-0. Fletcher pitched six scoreless innings and Davis closed it out. Shapiro led the offense with three hits, and Faulkner scored three runs. Aggarwal had a big two-run single, and JT Celico, Eli Terrell, Lapointe and Harrison Cooley all scored for Barrington.

Barrington will play for the state championship on Friday, July 27 at 5:30 p.m. at Bentley Field in Cumberland against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
