Barrington hosts hundreds in soccer tourney

It was nearly impossible to drive anywhere in town last weekend without seeing at least one youth soccer game.

The 32nd annual Barrington Youth Soccer Association Invitational Tournament brought roughly 130 teams to town from around New England. The teams competed in divisions between U9 and U14 at fields across Barrington including the high school, the middle school, St. Andrew’s School and Haines Park, among others.

The tournament lasted two days, Nov. 3 and 4.

Pat Stoddard is a former registrar with BYSA and has been a tournament organizer for the last 16 years. She said BYSA was happy with the cool but sunny weekend weather. It was a far cry from what rolled up the East Coast earlier in the week.

Ms. Stoddard also said the annual tournament is the organization’s sole fund-raiser helping fund field maintenance efforts and player scholarships.
