Barrington hall of fame celebrates new inductees


The newest members of the Barrington High School Athletic Hall of Fame were inducted Nov. 17 during induction ceremonies at the RI Country Club.

They included Katie (Piccerelli) Sweeney, Christine Conway, Holly Morris, Elizabeth (Kennan) Brosgol, Sarah (Richardson) Smedley, Bruce Goff, Pauline Woods and Ernie Woods, Lee Markowski, Kitty Gilbane, Patty (Baker) Holland, John Signore, Dana Warren Gee, Bill Baker, Eric Opdyke, Kate Nagle and Fran Giglio.

Also inducted were the late Raymond St. Vincent and Larry Deschene; and members of the 1985 BHS boys' swimming 200 meter relay team and 1996 softball team. Approximately 140 people attended the event.

Included on the program were Kevin Ryan, president of the Barrington Boosters Club and chairperson of the BHS Athletic Hall of Fame; Joseph Hurley, Barrington High School principal; and George Finn, Barrington High director of athletics and student activities.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
