Barrington girl frightened after man 'eyeballs' her

A 13-year-old Barrington girl says a man driving a white pick-up tried to entice her on Friday, Sept. 20.

According to police, the girl was walking home on Leslie Avenue in the Bay Spring neighborhood at about 3 p.m., when a man sitting inside a parked truck who had been "eyeballing" her then waved at her to come closer to his vehicle. The girl became quite nervous and ran home.

Her mother called police and told officers what had happened. Police responded to the area and spoke with the girl. They then drove her over to where the incident had occurred and found the truck. She confirmed the vehicle as the one the man had been driving, but officers were unable to locate the suspect. There was a rowboat in the bed of the truck.

Police are still investigating the incident.
