Varsity team recently won first place at Pop Warner regionals

The Barrington Pop Warner Varsity Cheer team is going to Florida.

The local cheer team won first place at the Pop Warner regional competition and qualified for the national championships at ESPN Wide World of Sports Center in Florida. The first place finish at regionals followed a first place finish at the state competition.

"Truly a dream come true for these 12 amazing cheer athletes and their dedicated coaches," said Susan Moran, cheer coordinator for Barrington Pop Warner.

The Barrington Pop Warner Varsity Cheer team will compete for the national title on Dec. 4, but local officials are working hard right now raising money to off-set the costs associated with the trip to Florida.

The local cheer team has set up a gofundme page — https://www.gofundme.com/barrington-eagles-pop-warner-cheer — and is also hoping to recruit local businesses to sponsor the team's trip.

Members of the team have also started collecting donations outside local businesses. On Nov. 10, 11 and 12, the girls and their coaches were canning outside the Riverside Shaw's Supermarket, and the team will be outside the Barrington Shaw's on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17 and 18, and again on Sunday, Nov. 25.

League officials are planning to hold a fund-raiser pasta supper, a movie night for kids and a Savers fund-raiser where people can donate their clothes and help raise money for the Eagles. Details of the additional fund-raisers will be released soon.

For more information, people should contact Ms. Moran at sgmoran@cox.net or visit the Barrington Pop Warner Facebook page.
