Barbara Godek, Warren


Barbara Godek, of Almy Avenue, Warren, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Born in Bristol, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Emma May (Metcalf) Ferrara, she was the beloved wife of the late Edward F. Godek Sr.

Mrs. Godek worked for R & J Manufacturing before retiring in 1998. She was crowned Bristol's Miss Fourth of July in 1949. She was a communicant of the former St Casimir's Church until its closing, where she was president of the Women's and Rosary Society. She was a communicant of St Thomas the Apostle Church where she was a member of the Rosary Sodality. She established Divine Mercy Sunday in both parishes. Mrs. Godek was president of the RI Chapter 22 of the Orchard Lake Ladies Auxiliary and National Vice President of the organization from 1991 to 1995. She was an active member of the Warren Senior Center.

Mrs. Godek leaves her children, Elizabeth Hoague and her husband David of Warren, Edward Godek and his wife Maria of Riverside, Richard Godek and his fiance Beth Sojka of Pawtucket, and Mary Ann Godek of Warren. She was the mother of the late Catherine Godek. She also leaves her grandchildren Andrea, Ryan, Andrew and Jason Godek, Kathleen Silva, Nicholas and Michael Hoague, Cecelia Mercado and Jessica Sojka; her great-granddaughter Ariyana Medas; her sister Priscilla Borenstein; and brother Richard Ferrara.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren where family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 31. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1 from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St Thomas the Apostle Church, Metacom Avenue, Warren. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
