PORTSMOUTH — Ghosts, goblins, zombies and musicians marched through the streets of Common Fence Point Monday for the neighborhood’s fourth annual Halloween Parade.

Organized by Portsmouth High School Band alumna Lauren McKone, the police-escorted parade featured the band leading dozens of costumed children who came out with their families for the festivities.

At one point, the band made a special stop at the home of two local teens who were seriously injured in a West Main Road car accident in August. There the young musicians played the school’s fight song, “For Portsmouth,” outside the house before continuing on with the parade.

After the march, families gathered back at the Common Fence Point Community Hall for games, treats and a costume contest. Portsmouth Police, meanwhile, handed out glow sticks to young revelers.

Two of the parade participants were Sara Lundberg and her 4-year-old son, Grant, who was perched on her shoulders. The Lundbergs used to live on Dighton Avenue and returned to the area to join in the fun.

“This is the best neighborhood,” Ms. Lundberg said.
