Arnold Stoehr Brooks, 69, Tiverton

Arnold Stoehr Brooks, 69, passed away on October 3, 2018, in East Providence. He was known as "Skipper" to his family and friends.  Born in Newport, RI, he was the son of Dorothy M. Brooks and the late Arnold C. Brooks. 

He was an artist, drummer, animal lover and had a great sense of humor.  He enjoyed watching movies and TV.  He was involved with the Maher Center workshop in Newport, and the Life Inc. group home in Bristol.  He attended Camp Jabberwocky for over 50 years, known there as "the world's happiest man.”  He gave joy to everyone he met.

He leaves behind his mother Dorothy M. Brooks, his sister Ruth Procaccini and brother-in-law Dr. Robert L. Procaccini, a niece Dena C. Procaccini and many cousins and friends.  He was the uncle of the late Eric R. Procaccini

Donations in his memory should be sent to: Camp Jabberwocky, P.O. Box 1357, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568 or www.campjabberwocky.org. 

Arrangements are with the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home 462 Main Rd, Tiverton, RI.  www,almeida-pocasset.com for on line guest book.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 24, at 10am at Amicable Congregational Church, 3804 Main Road, Tiverton, RI 02878.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
