Antonio B. Torres, 76, Westport

Antonio B. Torres, 76 of Westport, passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013. Born in São Vicente Ferreira, São Miguel, Açores, he was the husband of Margarida (Albernaz) Torres and the son of the late Manuel B. and Guilhermina (do Rosario) Torres.

Prior to retiring, Antonio worked at Joan Fabrics for 14 years as a machine oiler, and he was a parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Church.

In addition to his wife of Westport, he is survived by his daughter, Laura Maria Alexandre, husband Manuel of Westport; his brother, Manuel Torres of Westport; grandchildren Justin and Jenny Alexandre, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Filomena Raposo, Idalina Sousa and Joao Torres.

His funeral will was held at the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home., 1521 North Main St., Fall River, on Saturday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Grace Church, Sanford Road, Westport. Interment was in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours were Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.. www.rogersfuneral.com.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986.
