Anne M. (Deakin) Durkin, 89, of Barrington, died peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2017. She was the beloved wife of William T. Durkin with whom she would have celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary this month. Born in Danbury, Conn., she was the daughter of the late George and Ethel Deakin and she lived in Barrington for over 50 years.
She graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. and also completed summer programs at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. She initially worked as a teacher, but her true vocation was that of a wife and mother. She is survived by her six children: Dr. William T. Durkin, Jr. (Patricia) of Alexandria, Va.; George D. Durkin (Sheryl) of Las Vegas, Nev.; Atty Maritia Durkin Gray (Wayne) of Swansea, Mass.; Thomas J. Durkin (Celia) of Swansea, Mass.; James B. Durkin of Los Angeles, Calif., and Brian J. Durkin (Kimberly) of Barrington; and her seven grandchildren: Andrew Durkin, Patrick Durkin, Lauren Durkin, Madeline Durkin, Caileigh Durkin, Bennett Durkin and Charles Durkin.
She was a woman of deep faith and a communicant of Holy Angels Parish in Barrington, where she served as the organist from many years.
She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Kolwicz and her brothers, David Deakin and George Deakin, all of Danbury, Conn.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, April 20, from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Ave., Riverside at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angel’s Church Maple Ave, Barrington at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Forest Chapel Cemetery, Nayatt Road, Barrington.
