All East Providence schools will be closed Friday

EAST PROVIDENCE — The office of Interim Superintendent Dr. John DeGoes announced East Providence schools would be closed Friday, Feb. 8, due to the expected impact of Nor'easter Nemo.

Schools will be shut down in the city, but all 12-month employees in the system are expected to report to work if possible and if conditions are safe.

Snow amounts are expected to total as much as two feet as blizzard conditions strike the area some time shortly after noon on Friday or just about the time schools release students.

In addition, St. Mary Academy-Bay View has also canceled Friday classes as has St. Margaret and Sacred Heart Elementary Schools.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
