Albert R. Peckham, 85, Little Compton

Albert R. Peckham, 85, of Little Compton, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014.

Born January 14, 1929, he invested his life and considerable energies as the fourth generation on the family farm and greenhouse business.

He spent his high school years at Mt. Hermon School in Western Massachusetts, working on the school farm. Four years at the University of Rhode Island earned him a B.S. in agriculture. In 1951, Albert married Mary Jane Barry of Providence. They raised four boys and two girls on Peckham Road.

Albert was active in community affairs, including town council and scouting. Beginning in the late 1960s, Albert's farm shrank while the greenhouse business expanded. His wife joined the greenhouse team and the two were constant companions until her passing in 2010. Youngest son Richard took over greenhouse management in the 1990s but Albert continued to participate until recently.

Albert leaves behind three sons, two daughters, seven grandchildren, and his own "folk art" creations. His family is very grateful for his devotion.

A service will be held at the Wilbur and McMahon School in Little Compton at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 3.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Little Compton Historical Society.
