Albert Pompei, 70 of Caro, Mich., died Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Saginaw Covenant Hospital. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4285 McCandlish Road, Grand Blanc, Mich. Bishop John Juarez officiating. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the  Church.

Albert was born February 22, 1943 to parents Albert and Sadie (Marshall) Pompei. He was a proud patriot who served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Albert was an accomplished bugle player and serious history buff. He was known for his honesty, integrity, strength and sense of humor.

Surviving are children Michael (Karen) Pompei, Colleen (Mark) Twede, Stephan (Angie) Pompei, Jason Pompei; grandchildren Dominique, Drake, Alexandria, Kendall, Addison, Adalie, Matthew; sister Paty (Tony Tuhus) Pompei; nephew-cats Brando and Holden. Preceded in death by his wife Linda and his parents. Arrangements by the Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, Mich.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
