A great season for BMS field hockey teams

Barrington's A team finishes undefeated, unscored-upon

Barrington field hockey enjoyed a stellar fall season.

While the high school field hockey team won the state championship, Barrington Middle School's field hockey program also celebrated some successes.

The school's "A Team" finished the season undefeated and unscored-upon. In addition, the school's "B Team" and "I Team" also performed well.

Head coach Barbara Nozaki said Kasey Dillon did a great job in net for the A team, and benefited from a strong defensive unit that featured Abby Martel, Charlotte Danyla, Caroline West, Chelsea Duncan and Laura Villagran.

"Our midfield, played by Peyton Whittet, Amy Labelle, Chloe Moscrop, Lily Swintak, Maddie Gill, and Ava DiMatteo, helped work the ball up the field while helping our defenders out as well," Ms. Nozaki wrote in a recent email. "Our forwards, played by Emma Johnson, Kyle Keough, Emma Mueller, Lily Kirk, and Lilliana Hamilton, were ready to score and were always aggressive toward the ball, which helped the Eagles be so successful all season long."

Ms. Nozaki partnered with assistant coaches Cat Horn, Claire Moscrop, Krystal Sleboda and Marian Mueller.

"Overall we had a fantastic season, and we are sad to see our eighth-graders go, but we are ready for next year. Go Eagles!" wrote Ms. Nozaki.

More than 60 girls participated on the three Barrington Middle School teams — 17 on both the A and B teams, and 30 on the I team.

"The coaches and I choose to keep all these players as we enjoy the sport and want to share our love and knowledge with anyone who wants to join," wrote Ms. Nozaki. "It’s not always easy to manage this many players, but we make this effort year after year. This year was wonderful."

Normally the I team is limited to playing inter-squad scrimmages, but this year the team was able to play two regular games against Westport Middle School.

Ms. Nozaki praised the contributions of all 64 players and her assistant coaches.

"This year we had fewer girls miss practice, fewer times when a player left their gear at home," she wrote. "We ran much more with far less complaining.

"Between these terrific student-athletes, a phenomenal team of volunteer coaches and so many supportive parents, this season may have been the best yet. As I have said to our teams before, we all bring our own special talents to the table. As a whole, we complement each other and make positive things happen."
