A Warren man has been arrested on charges of possessing child pornography.
Rhode Island State Police raided the 20 Oak St. home of Joseph Rego, 59, on Wednesday, July 6, and took him into custody on two charges of possession of child pornography. He was initially held in lieu of bail at the ACI but was released on $5,000 surety bail last Friday, July 15. He is due in Sixth Division District Court for a pre-arraignment disposition conference on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Capt. Matthew C. Moynihan, the assistant detective commander of the Rhode Island State Police, said Tuesday that the agency’s Crimes Against Children Task Force started an investigation in March based on information that someone using a computer IP address in Warren was transferring and downloading images of child pornography.
Based on information developed on that IP address, police raided Mr. Rego’s apartment on Wednesday, July 6, arresting him without incident and seizing computers and other digital media.
As a condition of his release on bail, Mr. Rego was ordered to have no contact with minors and is forbidden from using the Internet.
