Barrington Little League All Star teams captured two District II championships over the weekend, as the 11U team defeated Bristol 6-5 and the AAA Yellow team knocked off Newport 12-1.

Barrington's 11U All Stars had to battle back from an early deficit against Bristol. Trailing 3-1, Barrington scored three runs in the fifth inning when JT Celico, Griffin Crain, Ben Ptaszek and Matt Raffa each had key hits.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Bristol scored twice in the top of the sixth inning and built a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the final inning.

Barrington's rally was ignited by Eli Terrell, who led off with a double and then moved to third on a wild pitch. Eli scored and helped Barrington tie the game when Harrison Cooley hit an infield ground-out. With the score tied 5-5, JT Celico singled and advanced to second when Griffin Crain walked. Ben Ptaszek then came through with a clutch walk-off double to the left field fence, scoring JT and giving Barrington the win.

Griffin Crain pitched five strong innings and was aided by some very strong defensive plays in the sixth inning by right-fielder Zack Berlinsky and catcher Matt Raffa. Ptaszek also pitched well in relief.

Barrington's run through the District II tournament included four straight wins.

The local All Stars will now play in the double-elimination state tournament, which is being held at Wilson Park in Wickford. Barrington will open against Warwick North on Saturday, July 30 at 7 p.m.

AAA All Stars

Owen Pfeffer pitched a complete-game two-hitter and led Barrington's AAA Yellow All Star team to a 12-1 win over Newport in the District II finals on Saturday.

Dan Lemos led the offense with a triple, while Christopher Promades and Matt Fede each had two hits. Garrett Meehan, Otis Crosby, David Redmond and Tee Shapiro all had base hits while Grant Culton scored an important run.

On defense, Mason Crain, Dustin Costa and Promades had important plays to stop any Newport offensive threat. Also, Cullen Crain played very well at the catcher's position.

The Barrington Yellow AAA All-Star team beat Bristol 11-9 to reach the District II finals.

Matt Fede, Owen Pfeffer, Dan Lemos, David Redmond and Garrett Meehan had key hits in the comeback victory, while Otis Crosby, Grant Culton and Tee Shapiro scored important runs. Pfeffer, Dustin Costa and Mason Crain had strong pitching performances to stop the Bristol offense.

In the bottom of the sixth inning with the bases loaded for Bristol, Cullen Crain showed tremendous determination and courage while pitching to hold off the Bristol attack. Barrington's Christopher Promades made the game winning catch from the catcher's position to end the game.

Barrington's road to the championship included four memorable come-from-behind victories — against Newport, Barrington AAA Blue, Tiverton and Bristol.

Barrington was led by manager Chris Promades and coaches Tom Crain and Frank Fede.

Andreozzi Tournament All Stars

Barrington's 7- and 8-year-old All Star team opened the Andreozzi Tournament with an 8-7 win over Pineview on Saturday.

Down 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Barrington's bats finally came alive and continued to be hot through the fifth inning when Barrington managed to come back and tie the game 7-7.

Henry Alfonso, Sam Montour, Santino Guiffrido and Brock Carroll each made highlight reel plays in the field to keep the score tied. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Johnny Raposa led off with a single, stole second and third and scored when Noah Taylor hit a walk-off double.

Colin McDermott, Nachi Patel, Brock Carroll and Henry Alfonso all pitched well in the victory.

Barrington plays against Cumberland on Thursday at Slater Park in Pawtucket at 5:30 p.m.
