Speak-Out: Town needs to dump Dunkin’

Posted

I’m calling about the PROPOSED DUNKIN’ DONUTS in the Gooding plaza. Has a  traffic study been done about this? It’s difficult enough to get out of Fayles Road sometimes, but it’s going to be even more with traffic attempting to turn into the plaza for a drive-thru. Not to mention those fire engines at that station are going to have a very difficult time getting out onto Hope Street. It doesn’t seem like much thought has gone into this at all. Wouldn’t another part of that plaza be a better location? They seem to have plenty of room, maybe near the People’s Credit Union.

You’re gonna TIE UP TRAFFIC at the busiest intersection in Bristol for a drive-thru at a Dunkin’ Donuts? I see another CVS fiasco in the future.

Simple definition of greed: A selfish desire to have more of something (especially money). Case in point: our local Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee (the owner). This Dunkin’ Donuts owner wants to put YET ANOTHER ONE OF HIS DONUT STORES in the Gooding Plaza abutting the Defiance Fire Station. How many stores does he own? Six or seven? The owner’s reason, as he made clear to thew Bristol Planning Board, was he wanted a store with a drive-thru window. I guess he can’t make enough money with the existing store that is already in place. You know what? If he can’t make enough money with the existing store, try another town like Barrington. Oh wait, I forgot, he owns a store in Barrington. And guess what? The Barrington store has no drive-thru window. Gee, what does Barrington know that Bristol doesn’t?

The location of this new proposed Dunkin’ Donuts store is going to be a nightmare. The proposed building will take away the parking for volunteer firefighters that really need immediate parking in the event of a fire. These men and women will be expected to look for parking at a time when they could be on their way to the emergency. The traffic in that area will be a major problem. It will be like driving through an obstacle course. There will be traffic going to and from Bank Newport’s drive-up windows and ATM, to Dunkin’s store parking, to Dunkin’s drive-thru, RIPTA buses stopping at the entrance of the plaza backing up traffic, and traffic coming out of Fales Road. CAN YOU SPELL ACCIDENTS?
