Speak-Out: 'Hoodlums' of Bristol, carpetbagging teachers

I’m just reading the Bristol Phoenix. My friend lives on Sousa Street and she was just telling me and talking to me about how at 3 a.m. in the morning, somebody was in front of her house, a man, screaming and hollering something, and the following morning her husband went outside and SAW A BEER CAN right near the bricks in front of his house. So it is a mistake here. But the poor people have to keep calling the police because Sousa Street is, is a very, very bad street now that there are a bunch of hoodlums living on it. All they do is cause trouble; stay up until 12 and 1 o’clock in the morning making noise. And they have drinking parties and music parties. Oh yes, please write the correct information down.

About the person talking about the four Dunkin’ Donuts in a three-mile radius, HOW ABOUT ALL THE BANKS in that area? There’s four banks in less than a mile radius. What about all those? Does Bristol need all these banks? I mean, be sensible. There’s a Dunkin’ Donuts there now. They’re gonna close that one and put up a nicer building so people, the elderly, can drive through. I mean, use your head. What’s a new building gonna do? I mean, worry about other things than Dunkin’ Donuts putting up a nice building in town. Be sensible.

I’m calling to say thank-you to a VERY SPECIAL MOTHER AND NURSE for organizing the Hope is Alive Walk on Aug. 20. Families are suffering the heartache of this deadly disease. We need to come together as often as we can to fight it. We need out elected officials on board. I realize they probably could not have a presence, but those elected officials and those running for office must take an affirmative stand to help the affected families in Bristol.

Yes, I’m just reading the article in the Speak-Out concerning the person who lives on Fales Road for over 28 years and has never had any trouble turning onto Hope Street. So I continued on with the Speak-Out and I see where he says ‘Let Mr. Sip ’n Dip fan go where you belong on Sousa Street.” Well, ya know what? Why doesn’t he come up and live on Sousa Street? He can join in with the rest of the hoodlums. MAYBE HE WOULDN’T HAVE SO MUCH FUN UP HERE.

What a shame that the Bristol Police DIDN’T TAKE ANY ACTION when the Sakonnet Bridge was closed down for over four hours, creating a terrible traffic jam in Portsmouth, and an even worse traffic jam in Bristol as people traveled on Metacom Avenue trying to get to the Braga Bridge. Instead of immediately jumping into action and sending extra police to direct traffic on Metacom or closing the construction down easier than planned, the Bristol Police, as best I can determine, and the people I have spoken to about it, did absolutely nothing. What a shame, given how much we spend on our police force.

I have one question to ask for every school committee in Bristol and Warren. They hire 10 new teachers in the Bristol Warren School Department; two vice principals; a principal at Mt. Hope High; a dean of students at Mt. Hope High. WAS ANY OF THEM HIRED AS A BRISTOL OR WARREN RESIDENT? I would like to know that because I know I sent my child to college to become a teacher, and subbed in the Bristol Warren School District for two years at Mt. Hope and two years at Kickemuit, and has not got a job. So I would like to know out of those 10 people they hired as teachers, two vice principals, dean of students and principal, are they Bristol or Warren residents? I want to know. Tell me why we don’t have anybody in Bristol and Warren that is certified or a great teacher subbing in that district to get a job. Please tell me. I want to know from every school committee thats on the school department in Bristol and Warren to answer this question.
