Sally Chace, 87, of Barrington

Sally (Pierce) Chace, age 87, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016 at home surrounded by her family.  She was the wife of the late James “Jake” P.W. Chace, Sr. A daughter of the late Leon W. and Sarah (Friars) Pierce, she was a lifelong resident of Barrington.

While Sally’s favorite job was that of mom and grandmother, her years in the guidance office of Barrington High School were a very close second. To show their appreciation for the impact she had on their high school years, the class of 1995 dedicated their yearbook to her and designated a garden in her name. That was an honor she cherished for the rest of her life.

Sally touched so many people throughout her life. Whether it was with her kindness, her spark, her warm smile, or her ever-present candy dish, she always made everyone around her feel loved and important. And she was loved equally in return.

Sally is survived by her three daughters, Linda Trowbridge and her husband Danny of Evans, Ga., Diane Fannon and her husband Kent of Dallas, Texas, and Barbara Lee and her husband Frank of Barrington; one son, James “Jake” Chace and his wife Rani of North Andover, Mass.; one sister, Gloria Brandt; two brothers, Merrill and Willard “Red” Pierce; eight grandchildren, Russell and Randy Trowbridge, Debbie Handfield, Megan and Jay Moura, and Anna, Jack and Connor Chace; and five great-grandchildren, John, Preston, Isabella and Gavin Trowbridge and Caroline Handfield. She was the mother of the late Deborah Jean Dickerson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. in Brookdale East Bay, 1440 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside. Visiting hours are Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St. Warren. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Sally to The Salvation Army Providence, Rhode Island Citadel Corps, 386 Broad Street, Providence, RI 02907.
