Robert Bernhard Wolter, 85, of Little Compton, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2016, after battling complications from a fall.

Bob was born in Evanston, Ill., on April 17, 1931. He attended Hubbard High School, The Ohio State University and University of Cincinnati. In 1954, Bob completed his degree in Business Administration at Ohio State and began a successful career in the paper industry. Bob worked and travelled extensively across South America, Asia and Canada. After living in Greenwich, Westport, Redding and Norfolk, Connecticut, he retired 15 years ago to Little Compton, Rhode Island.

Bob's passions in life were Ohio State football, having played as a Buckeye for Hall of Fame coach Woody Hayes, genealogy, history, and environmental causes. He spent many years documenting the Wolters’ family roots in Denmark and the Moravian church.

Bob served in leadership roles in many volunteer organizations, most recently including: The Little Compton Historical Society; the Little Compton Land Trust; the North Atlantic Salmon Association, and the Connecticut River Salmon Association. Moreover, for the past 13 years, walking Clementine, his yellow Labrador retriever, was an important part of Bob's daily routine.

Bob is survived by his wife of 31 years, Malinda Collison Wolter; his sister, Marjorie Erwine and her husband Dick; two children, Sara Lou Wolter and Robert Bernhard Wolter Jr; three step daughters, Lisa Rowe-Beddoe, Samantha Rowe-Beddoe Nasmyth and Amanda Rowe-Beddoe Hamburger; and many beloved grandchildren, Delaney Davidson, Keelin, Finn and Lochlan Wolter, Josh and Jesse Collins, Lucas and Jaspar Cumiskey, Finlay and Grace Nasmyth, and Owen and Caitlin Hamburger.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Bernhard and Elizabeth Sloan Wolter; as well as his brothers Carl and Richard Wolter.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at St. Andrew’s By the Sea Episcopal Church in Little Compton.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Little Compton Historical Society, https://lchistorical.wordpress.com/about/donations/. The family wishes to thank Hope Hospice of Providence, Rhode Island, St Elizabeth’s Home in Bristol, Rhode Island and Newport Hospital.
