PRUDENCE ISLAND — Outdoor water use is banned on weekends and restricted on weekdays on Prudence Island, the Prudence Island Water District announced on Tuesday.
Restrictions are needed due to the recent lack of precipitation which has caused water table levels and stream flow rates to drop, according to the District.
Watering of lawns, landscaping, shrubs, trees and gardens, use of power-washers and washing of vehicles/boats is prohibited until further notice.
Vegetable gardens may be watered Tuesdays through Thursdays, but only in the early morning (before 9 a.m.) or late evening (after 6 p.m.). All watering of vegetable gardens must be with a hand-held hose or container; the use of sprinklers, soaker hoses and timers is prohibited.
Filling of ponds, pools, hot tubs and similar equipment is not permitted under any circumstances.
Anyone with questions regarding outdoor water use should call the Water District at 401/683-0011.
The District encourages all customers to use water wisely to ensure a sufficient supply.
