Portsmouth Police stay busy with domestic quarrels

Here are some highlights from the Portsmouth Police reports from over the past week.

Monday, July 11

Gary J. Gonsalves, 43, of 166 Canonchet Drive, was charged at 8:53 a.m. with domestic assault after an incident at his home the night before. Police said a woman had asked Mr. Gonsalves for the keys to a car during an argument but he refused, even though they are both listed on the loan together. He then pushed her to the ground, the woman told police. Mr. Gonsalves turned himself in the following morning.

Adrienne E. Givens, 38, of 65 Dawn Marie Drive, was charged at 6:30 p.m. with disorderly conduct after yelling at neighbors about a puppy she was watching for a friend, police said. 

Tuesday, July 12

David J. Ralph, 37, of 223B Oliphant Lane, Middletown, was charged at 12:10 a.m. with driving without a license (fourth offense) after he was pulled over for leaving the lane of travel on East Main Road near Vanderbilt Lane, police said.

Daun S. Dimery, 53, of 9 Scotty Drive, was charged at 7:44 p.m. with felony domestic assault after allegedly hitting her boyfriend, Scott E. Brunner, 49, of the same address, with a 30-inch-long teak railing spindle during an argument at their home. The piece of wood caused a severe cut to the left side of Mr. Brunner’s head, police said, and he was transported by the Fire Department to Newport Hospital for stitches. Mr. Brunner, who police said threw several items owned by Ms. Dimery onto the front lawn and street, was charged with domestic disorderly conduct

Wednesday, July 13

Steven E. Dubrosky, 37, of 197 Canonicus St., Tiverton, was charged at 7:45 a.m. with domestic assault, domestic vandalism with malicious injury to property, and domestic refusal to relinquish a telephone. Police said Mr. Dubrosky got into an argument with a 34-year-old Portsmouth woman, smashed her phone when she threatened to call police, and pushed her to the ground.

Jose L. Jackson, 27, of no permanent address, was charged at 7:22 p.m. on a bench warrant issued by 2nd District Court. Mr. Jackson was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over on West Main Road because one of its brake lights wasn’t working.

Thursday, July 14

Ashley N. Gonzalez, 32, of 482 Warley St., was charged shortly after 1 a.m. with simple assault and driving while intoxicated after the Ford Escape she was driving hit a utility pole, crashed and flipped onto its hood on West Main Road at the Valley Inn, according to police. Police said an agitated Ms. Gonzalez pushed an officer in the groin area at one point.

Friday, July 15

Joy V. Dunn, 45, of 55 Almeida Terrace, was charged at 10:29 p.m. with domestic assault following a report of a domestic incident that had taken place at the Bayview Apartments parking lot. Police said Ms. Dunn and another woman had gotten into a verbal altercation on their way home from Newport which had escalated to an assault in the parking lot. They agreed to drive somewhere else to discuss the situation, then flagged down a Middletown police officer after pulling into the parking lot of J A M Construction Co. in that town. Police said the victim had injuries on her chest and elbow, while Ms. Dunn sustained injuries to her upper lip.

Police investigated a hit-and-run accident that took place shortly before midnight on East Main Road near Turnpike Avenue. Police said two vehicles were stopped at a traffic light in the left, northbound lane of East Main Road when a red sedan operating south on Turnpike at a high rate of speed failed to negotiate the curve. The sedan struck one of the stopped cars on the driver’s side, then hit the other vehicle. The sedan fled south on East Main Road and police were not able to locate it.

Saturday, July 16

John P. Matthews, 42, of 273 Bristol Ferry Road, was charged at 6:20 p.m. with violating a no-contact order, his third offense. Police received an anonymous report of a domestic disturbance involving Mr. Matthews and a 36-year-old woman at his home. When they arrived, police asked Mr. Matthews if the woman was inside the house and he responded, “No, I haven’t seen her all day,” according to police. The woman was later found hiding in the basement, police said.

Linda C. Gonzales, 28, of 382 Warley St., was charged at 5:27 p.m. with domestic vandalism and domestic disorderly conduct. According to police, Ms. Gonzales went to the home of a 32-year-old local woman and demanded to be let in. When the woman refused, Ms. Gonzales tried to kick the back door open, police said. Then, she broke a window, reached in with her hand and unlocked the window, police said.

Senai K. Hagos, 23, of 104 Roffere St., Barrington was charged at 5:46 p.m. with driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a two-vehicle accident at the corner of East Main Road and McCorrie Lane. No one was injured in the crash, police said.

Billey J. Dodd, 34, of 10 Pioneer Lane, was charged with domestic disorderly conduct just before 9 p.m. Police said Mr. Dodd was yelling loudly at a 26-year-old local woman during an argument over his playing of video games.

Sunday, July 17

Charles W. Kiser, 54, of Union Street, Apt. 2, Warren, was charged art 4:27 p.m. on a 2nd District Court warrant for failing to appear for a hearing. An officer with knowledge of the warrant made the arrest after spotting Mr. Kiser at a bus stop on West Main Road.
