PORTSMOUTH — Here are the highlights from the Portsmouth Police reports from over the past week.

Tuesday, Sept. 13

A 14-year-old girl living at a group home on Bristol Ferry Road was charged with vandalism with malicious injury to property at 2:23 p.m. Police said the girl had been climbing on the roof of a small shed and kicked in a storm window, breaking a pane of glass.

Police responded two more times to the same group home to deal with a different 14-year-old girl. The first call was made around 5:30 p.m. shortly after the girl became agitated following several phone calls with her stepmother, police said. She tried to rip off part of a porch banister, threw a rock at the front door, kicked in the front window, punched a window and struck a staff member in the face, police were told. Police charged her with assault, disorderly conduct and vandalism with malicious injury to property. Police were called back to the home at 7:44 p.m., after the girl threatened to stab two staff members with a piece of glass, police said. When police arrived, they found the girl sitting in another room, cutting her legs with the glass. Police said the girl put up a fight but they were eventually able to restrain her, and the Portsmouth Fire Department transported her to Newport Hospital for an evaluation. This time, she was charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon or substance and disorderly conduct.

Thursday, Sept. 15

Stephen W. Wight Jr., 55, of 84 Tower Hill Road, Tiverton, was charged at 1:45 p.m. with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to submit to a chemical test after he got into an accident on Route 24 South at West Main Road. Police arrived to find Mr. Wight’s Mercedes in the right shoulder of the “S curve” of the off-ramp with extensive front, side and rear-end damage. A couple that had stopped to offer assistance took Mr. Wight’s keys away before police arrived, according to police. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Matthew M. Hardies, 27, of 50 Murray Ave., Apt. 408, Worcester, Mass., was charged with violating a no-contact order at 2:45 p.m. Police said Mr. Hardies showed up at the home of a local resident whom he had been ordered to stay away from.

Sunday, Sept. 18

Steven L. Barboza, 20, of 225 Forest Ave., Seekonk, was charged with underage possession of alcohol shortly after 1 a.m. Police said they found a bottle of rum in Mr. Barboza’s car after they stopped it on Turnpike Avenue near Freeborn Street for speeding and failing to use a turn signal.

George J. Coite III, 46, of 77 Ann Ave., was charged at 1:55 a.m. with two counts of felony domestic assault after he allegedly pointed a kitchen knife at a 47-year-old woman and 20-year-old man and threatened them.

Monday, Sept. 19

Nicholas R. Barta, 20, of 143 Margherita Lawn, Stratford. Conn., was charged at 11:32 p.m. with underage possession of alcohol after police received a call that an intoxicated man was walking along Stringham Road. Police said Mr. Barta appeared intoxicated and they found a bottle of vodka in his backpack.
