Peter J. Lang, 54, Little Compton

Peter James Lang, 54, of East Main Road, Little Compton, died peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family.

One of five children of William (deceased) and Sandra Lang, Pete was born in Nice, France, on March 27, 1962, while his father served aboard the 6th Fleet flagship, USS Springfield.

He worked in irrigation, bridge painting, and construction. He enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and spending time with friends and family.

There will be an informal celebration of his life on Saturday, May 7, beginning at 5 p.m., at 44 Beach Drive, Little Compton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
