Paul D. Sullivan, 72, formerly of Bristol

Paul D. Sullivan, 72, passed peacefully on Saturday morning, Aug. 13, 2016, with loved ones by his side. He was born in Bristol, a 1960 graduate of Colt Memorial High School and a 1965 graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Agronomy.

He had a long, successful career in soil science and concrete, and was a dedicated employee of Williams Construction/Ferraiolo Company, where he was a construction manager and consultant until his retirement in 2011. He spent his retirement years traveling the world with his wife, and enjoyed winters in St. Augustine, Fla. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed summers fishing on his boat.

Paul was predeceased by his beloved son, Patrick. He is survived by his loving wife, Christine; son Timothy; Patrick’s widow, Amy; and his loyal dog, Smitty. He also was predeceased by his older brother, James. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Peggy; his younger brother, Petey and his wife, Karen; and several nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Patrick J. Sullivan Memorial Scholarship Fund, University of Maine, Augusta.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
