Fort Barton saluted for math jump

Tiverton’s Fort Barton School has been singled out for the improvement of both its mathematics scores and participation level in the state PARCC ((Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) assessment scores. The school was also a statewide leader in the literacy test.

The school was up 30 points in overall math achievement and 12 points in participation, the state Department of Education (DOE) said.

Ranger School showed a 16% jump in its literacy score and also now ranks high in the state in that category.

Little Compton scored small declines in most categories.

Statewide scores in both the literacy and mathematics tests were generally higher, the DOE said, as was statewide participation in the tests.

Here is a partial look at local participation and performance in 2016 with comparison to 2015 results- much more can be found on the state Department of Education website.
