Newport skating center to open Friday

Posted

The Newport Skating Center is once again on schedule to open at its downtown Newport Yachting Center location for the winter season. The grand opening of the rink and its popular tree lighting ceremony is slated for Friday, Dec. 9.

“Once again we want to thank Peregrine Group for their generous donation of the space to keep the Skating Center in downtown Newport. We want to also thank Alex and Ani and all our sponsors to date for their support as the rink requires corporate and community support each year to remain open,” said Michele Maker Palmieri, President and CEO of Waterfront Productions, the parent company of Newport Waterfront Events, which operates the rink.

Companies, organizations or individuals who are interested in rink partnerships, including signage, or contributing in some way to this year’s skating season, are encouraged to call 888/900-8640 or email info@newportskatingcenter.com.

Like last year, a full schedule of activities is planned for the rink this winter, including Family Fun Nights, Skates with Santa, Learn to Skate camp, community outreach support programs with non-profit groups including a Toy Drive for Santa’s Workshop at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center and, of course, the grand opening and traditional tree lighting ceremony. Blackstone Caterers’ “Fork In The Road” Food Truck will handle the on-site concessions at the rink this season.

The Newport Skating Center, which first opened in 2000, features a 9,000 square foot skating surface large enough to accommodate up to 100 skaters at a time. Skate rentals, hot beverages, comfort foods, lighting for night skating, regular admission discounts, free parking and viewing spaces for the public are also featured at the rink.
