Newport man hides from Barrington police after domestic dispute

Alleged victim, 22-year-old Barrington woman, suffered scratches and bruises

Barrington police responded to a report of a domestic dispute in progress at 2 a.m. on Saturday, April 30.

The incident reportedly took place inside a vehicle parked in the area of Washington Road and North Lake Drive. When officers arrived they found the alleged victim, a 22-year-old Barrington woman who appeared to have been scratched and bruised.

The suspect, however, was nowhere to be found.

The victim told police her boyfriend, a 27-year-old Newport man, was responsible for the injuries. She said he took off on foot.

Police searched the nearby neighborhood, but could not locate anyone fitting the description. Officers later spotted a vehicle driving in the area and ordered it over to the side of the road. The vehicle's driver turned out to be the suspect's mother; she told police her son had contacted her requesting a ride. The suspect was not inside the vehicle, said police.

Police are still investigating the incident.
