Stretches of cold shooting hurt the Westport boys basketball team Friday as the Wildcats lost to Bishop Connolly 70-58 in Westport.

Still, the teams were close before the visitors hit on a series of shots and foul shots to build what had been a four point lead to ten — 54-44 in short order with just under six minutes to play.

Despite a strong defensive and rebounding effort, that cold shooting doomed any comeback attempt as Westport went just 6 for 31 in the final quarter.

Connolly’s Austin Fernandes was a force all game and finished with 29 points, half of his team’s total.

Nick Collins was the top Westport scorter with 16 points. Devyn Vitorino scored 12 and Koby Porawski hit for 10.

The loss dropped Westport to 4-4, while Bishop Connolly improved to 2-7.

Girls beat Connolly

The Westport girls played their usual up-tempo style to beat Bishop Connolly 50 to 37 Friday at Bishop Connolly’s home court.

Laila Silver scored 16 points including three 3-pointers and Laura Mendell added 15 points. Both added six steals to their totals,

With the win, Westport remained unbeaten, moving to 8-0 overall, 2-0 in division.
