Michael Borgia, 49, Bristol

Mr. Michael Borgia, 49, of Basswood Drive, Bristol, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017 at Fatima Hospital, North Providence. 

Born in Providence and a lifelong resident of Bristol, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Alice M. (Silva) Borgia. A graduate of Bristol High School, class of 1986, he was a foreman for the Iron Workers Union, Local #37 for 21 years, and had previously worked for Carl Benevides Construction.

A biologist by heart, Mike was a nature lover, spending time gardening, fishing, helping his daughter Bethany with her 4-H projects with animals, or just spending quiet time reading. Michael had an infectious smile and always had a sincere interest in others.

He is survived by three daughters, Jillian N., Olivia A. and Bethany K. Borgia, all at home in Bristol; two brothers, Andrew P. Borgia, of Key West, Fla., and Steven Borgia (Lisa) of Warren; a niece, Jenna E. Borgia; and his longtime companion, Jennifer Masse Devine and her children, Allyson and Aidan, of Bristol. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life Saturday, March 4, at 2 p.m. in the Franklin Court Community Room, 150 Franklin St., Bristol (entrance at Wood Street, under arch. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted and burial will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael Borgia Family Memorial Fund, C/O Bank Newport, P.O. Box 450, Newport, RI  02840.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
