Bristol will once again pay tribute to the sacrifice of the nation’s veterans and residents are invited to “demonstrate your patriotism, freedom, devotion and allegiance” during the town’s annual Memorial Day celebration.

The two days of activities begin Sunday, May 29, at 9:45 a.m., with a memorial service at thew Rhode Island Veterans Home off Metacom Avenue. Any members of the public wishing to attend are asked to arrive by 9:30 a.m.

The main event — the Memorial Day Parade — kicks off at the North Burial Ground on Hope Street at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 30. Patriotic exercises and a speaking program begin the day’s activities. The parade steps off immediately afterward, and winds its way down Hope Street to the War Memorial Garden at the Burnside Building.

The annual wreath laying in thew garden is scheduled for the immediate end of the parade, and cannon fire will punctuate the ceremony.

Parking is available in the municipal lot next to Town Hall, and shuttle buses will be available to bring people to the burial ground for the state of the ceremonies. The shuttle buses are scheduled to leave the Burnside Building at 9 and 9:15 a.m.

In the event of rain, the parade will be canceled and the speaking program will take place at the Bristol Train of Artillery on State Street at 10 a.m.
