M. Adelaide (d’Oliveira) Nunes, 89, of Bristol, passed away on Feb. 23 surrounded by her loving family. She was married for 59 years to Anthony A. Nunes until his passing in 2012.

Addy was the daughter of the late Jose and Maria d’Oliveira and the sister of the late Jose, Horacio, Bertha and Julio d’Oliveira, Maria Perry and Fernanda Jamison. She was the beloved mother of Dawn McKown and her husband Richard, Leila Fay, Alan Nunes and his wife Lee Ann, and Jane Hackathorn and her husband William; grandmother of seven— Philip and Typhany Berretto, Jessica and Adam Donaldson, Elena and Kevin Botelho, Peter Dever, Jr., Adelaide Dever, Andrew and Samantha Nunes, and Alex Nunes; great-grandmother of eight — Philip, Adriana, Isaiah, Norah, Anahata, Lucas, Opal and Marshall.

She enjoyed her pets, painting and gardening. Throughout the years, she was a contributing member of the Bristol Art Museum and the Bristol Garden Club. In her later years, making puzzles, painting, reading and knitting for her great grandchildren took up a lot of her time. In addition to being a very talented woman, she was a loving mother and dear friend. She was a communicant at St. Mary’s Parish, and loved attending Sunday mass.

Addy’s family would like to thank the Visiting Nurses of Newport and Bristol Counties, the Bristol Fire & Rescue Squad and the staff at St. Elizabeth Manor for their loving care throughout the past year. Special thanks go to Marie Cabral and Sherri DeSilveira, her personal caregivers, for their unwavering devotion and attention.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 1 at 9 a.m. from Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Wood Street, Bristol at 10 a.m. Burial will be immediately following. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday. 4-8 p.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Fire and Rescue Squad, PO Box 775, Bristol, RI.
