Letter: Turns out town spending money on beach after all

To the editor:

Once again it has come to my attention that the Grinnell's Beach project will be costing the town money.

On the agenda for the Monday, April 25, meeting of the Town Council there is a copy of a paper stating:  Seeking permission to accept the RI Foundation grant re:  Grinnell's Beach.

The bottom paragraph of said document states:  "There was no match (meaning funds) required for this grant. The Town disclosed that DPW and Town Planner time and volunteer time would be used to support the project ..."

Well, well, well.  The town really needed a planner?  If he was so needed, why is he working on the Grinnell's Beach project instead of doing more important duties?  Also, the DPW can not always get to the duties they are supposed to perform, i.e., fixing potholes, etc., so why are they going to be taken away from such work to help on this Grinnell's Beach project?

I think when it comes time for these people to be re-elected you should think long and hard about what they are spending your tax dollar on.
