To the editor:

The Republican Town Committee would like to thank Patrick “Buzz” Guida for his 20 years of service on the Barrington School Committee.

Mr. Guida has been involved in education both locally and at the state level. While serving on the school committee he also maintained positions on the RI Association of School Committees, the RI Board of Regents, Council on Elementary and Secondary Education and the National State Boards of Education. Within these organizations he has held numerous executive positions.

Mr. Guida has also received many awards. In 2005 he was honored with the Howard Kay Award for Distinguished RI School Committee Member of the Year. In 2014 he was appointed the chairman of the Council on Elementary and Secondary Education by Governor Lincoln Chaffee and received the National State Board of Education’s Distinguished Service Award. This award is presented annually to three state Board of Education members in recognition of outstanding service to public education.

Mr. Guida’s commitment to education and public service is commendable. He has worked tirelessly to bring Barrington a new middle school. As co-chairman of the Middle School Building Committee he has seen a vision of a new middle school become reality.

Please join us for a reception in his honor Wednesday, Feb. 1 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Wharf Tavern in Warren. Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased ahead of time at EventBrite.com or purchased at the door (all proceeds will benefit the Barrington Education Foundation and the Barrington Boosters).
