Letter: Candidate never requested Warren endorsement

Posted

To the editor:

I do not read the Barrington Times and the Bristol Phoenix on a regular basis as the articles pertain to the individual towns, which I am not a resident. I was recently asked about an article in the Barrington Times regarding the endorsement of the democrat candidates for Representative District 67 (Barrington/Warren).

Mr. Knight’s statement is correct in that Rep. Malik was the only candidate considered for the endorsement from the Warren Democratic Town Committee. Rep Malik was the only person to request the party consideration for endorsement.

As chairman of the Warren Democratic Town Committee, I bring all requests to the committee members for a vote. I did not receive a request for endorsement from Mr. Knight or his campaign committee.

In past elections other state candidates were not considered for endorsement because they did not request it. As a result of his failure to reach out to the members of the Warren committee, it was felt that the town of Warren was not important to him and the focus of his campaign is only on the town of Barrington.

Richard Silva

Warren

Mr. Silva is chairman of the Warren Democratic Town Committee.
