PORTSMOUTH — Infants, toddlers and tikes grooved to the sounds of Duke Ellington, Count Basie — and even the “Sesame Street” theme song — during the annual Jazz for Kids program at Greenvale Vineyards on Thursday.

The free program, part of the Newport Winter Festival, was created 18 years ago as a way to introduce children to the sounds of jazz in a fun and creative way.

The musicians — vocalist Tish Adams backed by Dennis Cook on saxophone, Yvonne Monnett on keyboards and Rick Wells on drums — entertained a good turnout with songs children love and know in a jazz setting that incorporated with old-time standards.
