Five of Kickemuit Middle School’s best musicians are also among the state’s elite, earning All State honors after auditions late last year.
Emily Marino (chorus), Lexi Lanni (chorus), Rachel Ouellette (flute), Dylan Araujo (trumpet) and Peter Labonte (French Horn) found out recently that they’d been named Junior All State, following auditions held at Moses Brown School. The students were asked to perform sheet music and memorize scales and other demonstrations of their understanding of theory. Rachel, 12, a seventh grader who plays the flute, was named to All State Orchestra; Emily, 12, also in the seventh grade, was named to All State Mixed Chorus; Lexi, 13, an eighth grader, was named to the All State Mixed Chorus; Peter, 13, an eighth grader who plays French Horn, was named to the All State Band and Dylan, 13, who plays trumpet in the eighth grade, was named to the All State Band.
