John Margarida, 86, Tiverton

John Margarida, 86, of Tiverton, died peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2016.  He was the beloved husband of Natalie (Pavao) Margarida,for 66 years.  Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late John DeSilva Margarida and Mary F. (Enos) Margarida.

Mr. Margarida worked as a foreman at several dress shops for many years.  Following retirement, he loved working as a school crossing guard in Tiverton for 23 years.  He was a communicant of St. Theresa Church.

He leaves his two loving children, Judith A. Davidian-Taylor and her husband Hennry Taylor of Tiverton, and Steven Margarida and his wife Judi of Tiverton.  Cherished grandfather of Brooke (Davidian) Kelly of Attleboro, Danielle Margarida of Cumberland, Katelyn Margarida Dumont of Johnston, and Ashley Margarida Replogle of Swansea. Mr. Margarida also had four great grandchildren. Chace Thomas, Nolan John, Adeline Pearl, and Oscar Steven. He was the brother of the late Francis Margarida and Doris Souza. Mr. Margarida, also leaves several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 25, at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, 265 Stafford Rd. Tiverton.  Burial will follow in Pocasset Hill Cemetery.  Calling hours are respectfully omitted.  As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Pocasset Elementary School, 242 Main Rd., Tiverton, RI 02818 in memory of John Margarida.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home.  For online messages of condolence, kindly visit www.almeida-pocasset.com

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
