EAST PROVIDENCE — The 67th edition of the Agawam Hunt Club Father-Son Invitational Doubles Tournament took place last weekend at the historic venue in city.

The event, played on Agawam's grass courts, has historically brought together some of the best father-son combinations from around the country, according to the club's director of tennis Patrick Montane.

In the end, the tandem of Jerry Morse and Brett Karzen, from Illinois, defeated Paul and Christian Settles, of California, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, to claim the championship.

Among the competitors this summer was Fred McNair, a former world top-ranked doubles player who won the French Open men's doubles with partner Sherwood Stewart in 1976 and who was also a member of the winning United States Davis Cup team in 1978 along with the likes of John McEnroe.

The McNairs, Fred and son Seth, lost in the quarterfinals of the main draw to the eventual champion duo of Morse- Karzen by the scores of 6-1 and 6-3.

"Teams come from all over the country, as far as California, to participate in this great event. It's a great atmosphere all around with great competitive tennis," said Mr. Montane.
