Huskies dominate in impressive LAX win

Posted

With a relentless offensive attack and a stingy defense that kept the ball out of the zone all game long, the Mt. Hope girls lacrosse team dominated Narragansett Friday, winning 13-1 at Colt State Park to open playoff season.

With the win, the Huskies move onto the semi-final game against Lincoln.

Mt. Hope took control of the game from the opening draw, scoring on three of their first four offensive attacks. Jenna Cimbron got the scoring started with an unassisted drive to the goal a minute into the game, a feat she repeated at the start of the second half.

Playing in her first game back after having suffered a concussion earlier in the season, Cimbron scored three goals and collected three assists, each time setting up teammate Grace Moclair, who led the Huskies offense with four goals and 2 assists.

“The offense kind of runs through Grace, if you couldn’t already tell,” coach Kerri Ferreira said after the game. “And Jenna was playing her first game back. It was nice to see her fall right back into place.”

The Huskies seemingly won every draw and corralled nearly ever loose ball in the first half. Narragansett managed just one shot on goal in the first half, scoring on a penalty shot on their only trip into the Mt. Hope zone.

Already up 10-1 to start the first half, Mt. Hope added three more quick goals to take a commanding lead. Narragansett tried to mount more of an attack in the second half, but goalie Morgan Kane turned away all six shots. The defense took care of the rest, keeping the ball out of the Mariners hands all game long.

“Defensively, we were phenomenal today,” Ferreira said. “Offensively, we’re big with possession. Our first option isn’t always our best option. Offensively, they just click together.”

The semi-final game against Lincoln has not yet been scheduled. It will be played either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of next week.
